The Green Refectory: 115 Sydney Rd, Brunswick

This is my favorite place on earth to go to after a big night out. Green Refectory or affectionately known as ‘Green’ or ‘Illy’ to its loyal customers serves all-day breakfast and also gourmet salads, cakes, muffins and pastries and such. Oh and of course, their Illy coffees!

Once you step into this place, expect a warm and busy, but relaxing atmosphere. Crowd ranges from old locals to indie kids sipping a soy chai latte. Staff are fast and friendly, but expect to wait for a table, especially on weekends. I personally like the whole ‘home-y’ feeling you get from the interior of this place. You can eat inside and observe the eclectic artworks (that’s also for sale, I believe) or go outside and enjoy the sun.

Prices ranges from $8-$15, pretty cheap for quality food like these. I would recommend the ‘Breakfast Stack’ and the ‘Eggs Benedict’ from the breakfast menu. And also the ‘Summer Chicken Burger’.

Breakfast Stack is basically a stack of hash brown (i think) with spinach, bacon, grilled haloumi cheese (my favorite!) and topped with egg made by your choice, and tomato relish on the side. On $10, this is simply ridiculously good and very filling.

Eggs Benedict offers 2 perfectly poached eggs sitting pretty on top of sliced ham and toasted muffin, glazed with hollandaise sauce. Delicious.

And the Chicken Burger was also a surprise, to be quite honest, I thought their lunch menu wouldn’t be as good as the brekky (since I am a brekky fan initially) but I was proven wrong! Pan-fried chicken breast, still juicy and wonderfully spiced, with toasted white bread, mayo, roast capsicum, avocado, bacon and baby spinach. This dish made my day!

The food may seem like just a simple, healthy dish on the eyes but the taste of each bite combined with the energy of this place really contributes to the whole green experience. Definitely make this place your pitstop, when looking for a hangover cure. Be amazed! Then when you’re hooked (like me) you can surely join a group dedicated to this awesome establishment here.

Kudos to Jess who introduced me to this magical land.
