Sushi Sushi: 317 Swanston St, Melbourne CBD
One thing I hate about Sushi Sushi is their discriminating menu. Does anyone else realize this? Well, I used to live in Ringwood and the Sushi Sushi in Eastland would only serve ‘normal’ sushis and limited sashimi. You know, the typical chicken teriyaki, california, salmon and avocado roll - gees, those lame, popular ones. I know maybe the majority of people in Ringwood (or other suburbs, i might add) may not enjoy squid sashimi or eel sushi but what happens to me then?! I am forced to travel! On public transport! Just to enjoy the goodness of raw sliced fish! Thank god I live in the CBD now.
Anyways - this one on Swanston is officially my favourite, because it’s the mothership? I mean it’s the largest Sushi Sushi I’ve seen and they have extensive ala carte sushi menu.. oh their display has never fail to bring me many many foodgasm over the years.
These are among my $2 favorites: the spicy tuna, the tuna, and crispy tempura.
The tuna has that perfect red colour, and it’s pan fried on the side, with sliced spring onion on top - for the love of god, you can’t go wrong with this one.
Crispy tempura is sure crispy, and the kewpie mayo goes extremely well with it.
Spicy tuna is awesome, the only thing I don’t like about it is the way it’s served, I mean, the sliced tuna and spicy mayo are stacked on top of the rice roll, it’s pretty hard to eat in a whole bite (and you kinda want to eat it with the rice, it’s too spicy without it) so i always have to fork it out, um, i mean, chopstick it out, so I can enjoy it without risking burning my tounge in one go. But - delicious.
I love going here for a bit of a in-between meals, you know, when you get pretty hungry but it’s not time for dinner yet.. hehe, yeah that.
Oh and check out their site, it’s pretty cute with the chef and all, but it manages to slow down my firefox, so beware, but I like it when places like this have extensive websites.. it shows that they care (and making pretty good money too, hehe)
