Oriental Tea House: 378 Little Collins St, Melbourne CBD

We found this place by accident and mere curiosity. This place is amazing. This place is every tea-lovers’ dream. Maybe.

For starters, the interior itself is very fancy, very inviting and cozy. It was quite a hot day when we paid a visit, so the fact that they have tables on deck was also a plus. There’s comfy couches inside and more upstairs. High ceilings, teapots everywhere and bold colors. I want to live there.

They urge the customers to test out their different flavored teas, all arranged beautifully in a circular table, right near the waiting area. There are little plastic cups you can use to taste them and believe me, once you taste one you will want to taste more and more and more. You can also buy the teas you want there, quite pricey though, but I think it’s worth it. My favorite was the raspberry and lime tea. You can have it there as well, only $3.50 for either an iced or hot one.

The yum cha wasn’t mouth wateringly fucking great or anything, it’s pretty standard. I mean, I had better ones in a Box Hill foodcourt, I am sure. They range from $5-$8 per dish. Something I should mention is their steamed fish with garlic and chili, it was superb. And also the scallop dumplings. We tried about 15 of their steamed dishes and those were clearly the table favorites.

It’s great for afternoon tea and/or snack pitstop but I won’t recommend it as your dinner destination, considering its price, which is not that cheap, clearly. But defnitely visit - for the whole tea+yum cha experience, just don’t overdo it like we did!
